S. Annelle Lewis, president of Annelle Lewis Consulting, provides nonprofit leadership, philanthropic mission to market alignment and governance expertise.  She has demonstrated experience in building leaders and re-engineering organizations.  Annelle is a multifaceted leader whose daily mantra is to empower communities and change lives, and whose life resonates for developing vital organizations in which leadership is dispersed through every level of the organization.

Since 2011, Annelle has assisted local and national nonprofit organizations in New York, New Jersey Washington, DC and Virginia in the areas of governance, strategy develop, creating economic impact analysis and revenue diversification plans. In 2011, Annelle assisted the Harlem RBI and DREAM Charter School and led efforts that resulted in growing capital revenue to $10M. She framed strategies for national replication, created packaged sponsorship and named gift opportunities and successfully launched their $90M capital campaign.

From  2008-2011, Annelle served as the Centennial Executive Director for the National Urban League where she successfully led the celebration which resulted in an increase of brand awareness and fundraising as illustrated by achieving 109% of the fundraising goal and spearheaded the I AM EMPOWERED campaign, focused on closing the equality gaps in education, employment, housing and health.  Results led to the successful launching of the campaign and over 182,000 individuals in the digital community,  as well as recruiting dignitaries from corporations, elected officials, sports and entertainment to lead to the 140 member honorary committee for the 100th Anniversary. 

From 1998-2008, Annelle served as Senior Vice President, Affiliate Services and was the former Senior Vice President for Affiliate Development, Programs & Policy with the National Urban League.  In these capacities, she directed the delivery of professional development, technical assistance and services to more than 100 affiliates in 36 states and the District of Columbia serving 2 million participants, with an annual economic impact exceeding $925 million.  Annelle was charged with developing the department's strategic plan and identifying major initiatives for overall effectiveness.  Annelle and her team developed the performance assessment system, which measures affiliate integrity, vitality and mission implementation; and to determine affiliate eligibility for national program funding.  She managed the President/CEO certification process and successfully certified an average of 50 CEO candidates on an annual basis.  She created standards for new affiliate development, revised the 15-chapter Affiliate Resource Manual of how to templates, best practices and revised the Terms of Affiliation.  Results led to the ability to create successful Urban League affiliates and have organizational standards of operation, performance and accountability. Annelle's portfolio also included a $20 million budget and 40 staff representing the U.S. Department of Labor Projects, Housing and Economic Development, Department of Transportation, and Whitney M. Young Jr., Center for Urban Leadership Initiatives. Annelle created the National Urban League Young Professionals in response to the need for emerging leadership and provided liaison support to over 15,000 affiliate staff and volunteers and key stakeholder affinity groups. 

Prior to joining the National Urban League, Annelle served as President/CEO of The Urban League of Metro Denver, where she and her team transformed an organization in crisis to a stellar performing affiliates; and led record breaking fundraising efforts at The Piney Woods School in Mississippi as Director of Development.   Annelle honed her skills as a marketing and program executive with the Detroit, MI Girl Scout Council and was appointed the first African American CEO of Girl Scout Councils in Dayton, OH and Lansing, MI.  During her tenure, these councils led the country with service delivery ratios, conducted a capital campaign, created alumni associations and diversified revenue sources.                                                                             

A graduate of Columbia University Teachers College, Annelle was selected as a New Detroit-Ford Foundation Scholarship recipient.  She was awarded her master’s degree in School Finance/Politics and Education.  An active Michigan State University alum, Annelle continues to support her undergraduate alma mater.  She served on the MSU Alumni Association Board of Directors; is a charter member of the Urban Affairs Alumni Association and led efforts for its first endowment.  Additional professional studies include Case Western Reserve Mandel Center for Non Profit Management Certification and Harvard University, Asset and Corporate Management seminars. 

Annelle's wisdom, leadership and service have been recognized across the country.  She is a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel, The Source: Twelve Principles of Governance That Power Exceptional Boards, published by BoardSource.  Annelle is listed in Who's Who in Black New York and is the recipient of the Urban League of Metro Denver Distinguished Warrior Award, the UNCF Meritorious Award, State of Colorado Governors Citation, Who's Who Registry of Business Leaders and the Spirit of Detroit Award.  She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Human Services Assembly, Leading Age and Volunteers of America; and is a life member of Girl Scouts of the USA and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
